Kimo:
I went to Scotland first as a tourist in the 90’s and toured the countryside as well as Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I always wanted to visit the islands but never did so I guess I was imaging what it might be like to live there.
I’ve been back three times on tour but usually just for a day.
I did stay in Glasgow for four extra days once when the tour ended there.
I rented a car and visited some castles.
And in the evening I’d go to the Butterfly and Pig pub for dinner!
I have to add that I discovered single malt scotch on my first trip to Scotland.
It was late spring but still freezing outside.
I popped into a pub and tried some tasty single malts.
After that, I was no longer uncomfortably cold walking around Edinburgh!
Vito:
I’ve been a history nerd all my life and the history of Scotland is very interesting.
Firstly is that we have a country named after an Irish tribe, the Scotti.
They moved into Scotland during the 5th century into the western areas.
How they became the new name of Scotland I’m not sure of. It was formerly called Alba.
The 2nd thing is that England had been attempting to control Ireland by moving in English nobility and in 17th century introducing lowland Scots into the region, as Scotland had become part of the ‘United Kingdom’ after 1610.
So you have the Scotti coming back to Ireland after hundreds of years in Scotland.
I find that interesting…you probably don’t and are annoyed that you had to read all the way thru this to find it was just as boring as your history class in Jr. high.
Better to go to the Butterfly and Pig pub for a single malt scotch. ;)
